2016 Presidential Candidates and Medicare

As the election draws near you, a Medicare participant or soon-to-be Medicare participant, need to be sure you educate yourself properly on what the candidate’s positions on Medicare and health reform are. As you plan your retirement you need to make sure you have sufficient medical insurance for your needs. If you haven’t thought it through yet, your health and insurance options will be significantly impacted by our new government administration’s positions on health reform issues. Pay close attention to how they plan on paying for Medicare and health care for retirees over the next 4-8 years.

That being said let’s take a look at what positions the Democratic and Republican 2016 presidential candidates take. To find out how the candidates’ are weighing in on this issue, first look at positions posted on each candidate’s websites.

From Hillary Clinton’s website:

• Supports the ACA (Affordable Care Act) and plans to defend it against forces opposing.
• Against privatization of the Medicare system.
• Plans to reduce the cost of prescription drugs.
• Advocates making enrollment through Medicaid and ACA easier.

• Supports repeal of the ACA (Affordable Care Act).
• Allow individuals to fully deduct health insurance premium payments from their tax returns under the current tax system.
• Block-grant Medicaid to the states.
